Get a Real Popup

Hooray for Windows! No, I’m not about to bash Microsoft..I’m thankful for a different kind of window. Back when the use of windows first hit that threshold where multiple windows was a reality, they made use of a cool little thing called the “modal window”. This is an application window which forces a user to do something with it before they resume what they were doing. It prevents the user from touching anything else until they’ve appealed to the window's needs.

Now I’m not sure when it was, but recently there has been a big breakthrough in web, popup-like windows. These windows grey out the screen and hover over the site much like the modal windows. After seeing a few of these in action, I decided to attempt one of my own for one of our projects. It did its job, but we couldn’t really use it on anything but that specific site because there was so much code and you had to place some of the script on the page it was displaying on. After using it on four other projects, almost rewriting it each time to get it to work, I got fed up. There had to be an easier way to do it.

A few weeks ago I came across some down time and thought this would be a perfect time to improve on my modal window. I spent my spare time slowly developing an easy-to-use modal popup that I could drop in almost any site and go. After a few late nights and one long week of bugging some of the other developers for ideas, I am proud to say I’ve completed a fully functional version. Now, you’re probably wondering why I’ve taken the time to share this with all of you, and no they don’t pay me to blog about our products.  At Amplify Studios, we love to help out the developing community and what better way to help out than to give back. Click here for a preview of getRealPopup, my programmer friendly modal popup window. There are so many fun features you can use and if you need some help, just ask!
